Miners name Walker new head coach & GM

RED LAKE, Ont. — The Red Lake Miners Hockey Club of the SIJHL and the RLM Board of Directors are pleased to announce the hiring of Geoff Walker as the organization’s new head coach and general manager.

Walker who is from Charlottetown, P.E.I. brings an abundance of hockey experience to the organization.

Starting his junior hockey for a year with the Summerside Western Capitals of the MHL.

Walker then played four years of major junior hockey in the QMJHL finishing off junior hockey as the leading scorer and assistant captain of the Prince Edward Island Rocket.

Walker had a 10-year professional hockey career that included three NHL contracts and played in the AHL, ECHL, AlpsHL and EIHL.

Following his professional career Walker began his coaching career last season with the Hinton Wildcats in the WSHL leading the WIldcats to a second place finish in the Provincial Division.

“I am really excited to join a strong organization like the Red Lake Miners, they have had some great success and I am looking forward to coming in and helping build on that,” stated Walker.

“Bringing a championship to Red Lake is something I look forward to helping the organization achieve.”

Coming off the best regular season in franchise history and the teams second appearance in the SIJHL finals.
