Miners’ Jennings jolts GM Ice Dogs in OT

COCHENOUR, Ont. – Brody Jennings second goal of the game, coming with 14 seconds remaining in overtime, was the decider as the English River Miners rallied to upend the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 4-3 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Cochenour Arena.

An early power play allowed Dryden to get going offensively thanks to a Kris Hamlin man advantage effort.

Up a skater again later in the frame, the GM Ice Dogs went up a pair compliments of Wyatt Lawrence’s 12th tally of the season at 9:17.

Battling back in the second period, English River got on the board at 7:58 as Nic Herringer’s ninth marker cut into the deficit.

The Miners then drew level via the power play a few minutes later as Michael Di Lullo notched the tying tally.

Dryden regained the lead however before the stanza was complete when Tristan Simm picked up his first SIJHL goal at 15:43.

Action in the third period saw the home side force extra time with 4:12 remaining in regulation during a two-man advantage expired thanks to Jennings.

With each team earning a point in OT, Jennings was hero ending it with the clubs skating three aside in the late going of the session.

English River outshot Dryden 41-33 on the night with Westin Cardwell picking up the win while Jacob Gnidziejko suffering the OT setback.
