Miners Double Up Walleye 4-2

The Kam River Fighting Walleye made the long trek to the Cochenour Arena to take on the Red Lake Miners on their first road trip in the SIJHL.  Austin Madge would get the start in net for the visitors while Cole Wheaton would start his second straight game for the Miners.

Kjell Osbourne got the visitors on the scoreboard first at 7:16 in the first period. Osbourne took the puck end to end splitting two Miners defensemen before beating Wheaton for his first Junior ‘A’ goal.   Elliot Parker made it 1-1 at 15:29 on a deflection on the point shot of Alim Darmenov.   After 20 minutes of play the score is tied 1-1 with the Miners holding a 13-8 edge for shots.

Second period action had the Walleye putting some pressure on Wheaton and the Miners.  Trenton Morriseau would give the Walleye a 2-1 lead at 16:00 when he was sent on all alone on a short breakaway.  Miners would tie it up at 2 shortly after.  Elliot Parker would pounce on a rebound to put the puck in for his second of the game at 17:57. After 40 minutes the game is tied at 2 with the Walleye leading 27-19 in shots.

Miners captain Ryan Howe would open up the scoring in the third period at 4:25 stepping out from the boards with some nice stick handling then ripping a wrist shot past Madge.  Lucas Piekarczyk would score his third of the season at 8:41 to put the Miners up 4-2 beating Madge with a wrist shot.  Cole Wheaton kept the Walleye off the scoreboard the rest of the way to secure his first Junior ‘A’ win stopping 37 shots.
