Miners announce name change

RED LAKE, Ont. — The English River Miners hockey organization of the Superior International Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce, effective immediately, that they have changed their name to the Red Lake Miners.

After careful consideration and thoughtful discussion, the Board of Directors and membership voted unanimously for the change at the club’s Annual General Meeting held on August 7th.

“This change allows us to have an identity of who we are and where we play,” stated Miners community liaison director Warren Badiuk.

“This should benefit the organization with recruiting, corporate sponsorship and general identification of our location and area,” added Badiuk.

“The Red Lake area has been synonymous with the mining industry for over a century and we look forward to representing the area with our new name. We are excited about the future of the Red Lake Miners.”

The Red Lake Miners begin their sixth season in the SIJHL with back-to-back preseason games
against the Fort Frances Lakers September 14-15.

Season ticket sales are now in full swing and are available from any board member or by contacting the team’s Facebook or twitter accounts.
