MacLean scores 3 as North Stars drop Dryden 8-2

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Robert MacLean scored three times to help pace the Thunder Bay North Stars past the Dryden Ice Dogs 8-2 Wednesday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Arena.

The North Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Trevor Hynnes, Cary Brown and Brett Wolframe before Tim Kavanaugh got Dryden on the board with a power play marker late in the stanza.

Thunder Bay extended their lead to 6-1 after 40 minutes on efforts supplied by MacLean, Zach Grzelewski and Tim Cavar during a man advantage opportunity.

After Chris Belhumeur notched the Ice Dogs second of the night early in the third MacLean tacked on two more to finish off his hat trick and round out the scoring.

Matthias Gardiman, Kenny Turner and Daniel Del Paggio all dished out a pair of assists apiece in the victory.

For Del Paggio he now has at least one point in each of the past 34 games he has skated in.

Nathanial Dupuis picked up the win for the North Stars.

Dryden starter Shayne Dietl suffered the loss allowing three against in 15:23 of game action before giving way to Joakim Jutras the rest of the way.

The same two teams will meet again Thursday back in Dryden. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
