Lumberjacks Sweep Bombers with 5-3 Win

By Tanner Schafer

Spooner, WI – The Wisconsin Lumberjacks look to be in good form heading into post season play as they completed a weekend sweep of the Sioux Lookout Bombers on Saturday Night.

The Bombers were determined to put up a better fight than what they showed in a 7-3 loss the night before and did so by starting the scoring early. It was a big weekend for Nathan Dann as he scored 2 on Friday and his 1st just 5 minutes into this one giving his team an early lead. Dann was assisted by Ty Bahm and Tait Howell. The 1st period had plenty of action with all the goals being spaced out 5 minutes apart. At the halfway point it was Cooper McClure who evened the game at 1. Zach Carson got the lone helper on the goal. 5 minutes later it was Simon Davidson’s turn as he gave the Lumberjacks their first lead. Kaden Postal and Dylan Olsen got assists on the power play goal. And to cap off the period with just 23 seconds left Nathan Dann scored his 4th of the weekend bringing the game to a 2-2 tie heading into the 2nd period.

The Bombers would again strike early finding the back of the net less than 2 minutes into the 2nd. Blake Burke scored his 24th of the campaign with assists going to Lucas Trimarchi and Connor Burke to give Sioux Lookout a 3-2 lead. Late in the period the Lumberjacks took over with 3 unanswered goals. First it was Ryder McMillen on the powerplay assisted by Drake Flynn. That was followed up with Flunn scoring 2 of his own, one on the powerplay and one at even strength to make it a 5-3 Lumberjacks advantage.

In the 3rd period both teams would put 10 shots on goal but neither could find the back of the net and the Lumberjacks won 5-3. Much of the weekend came down to both team’s ability to convert on the powerplay. The Lumberjacks were a perfect 5 for 5 and have the best power play in the league on home ice. The Bombers had plenty of chances but finished just 2 for 12 over the 2 games. Kyler Lowden had a great game in net stopping 32 shots and getting the win. Zach Lance had 35 saves in a losing effort. Drake Flynn was the game’s 1st star with 2 goals and an assist. Simon Davidson’s goal was good enough for 2nd star of the game. Nathan Dann again won 3rd star with a multi-goal effort.
