Lakers’ Minerva repeats as SIJHL Gongshow Gear performer of the month

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Friday that Fort Frances Lakers defenceman Nick Minerva has been named the Gongshow Gear Inc. performer of the month for December.

This marks the second consecutive month the Lakers assistant captain and 19-year-old New Brunswick, N.J. product has garnered SIJHL monthly accolades.

In six outings during the final month of 2015, Minerva dished out 16 points for Fort Frances helping them win each of them.

The Lakers D-man scored four times and doled out a dozen assists in December helping his league-leading club run their record to a SIJHL-best 23-3-0-1.

Heading into 2016, Minerva leads all league defencemen in points with 36, which is also just one off the overall lead among all SIJHL skaters.

He also has tallies in four straight games and points in six in succession.

Since Oct. 30 the Fort Frances blueliner has only been held off the score sheet twice in 15 games accumulating 29 points in that span.

For his efforts, Minerva will receive a prize pack courtesy of Gongshow Gear, the official lifestyle hockey apparel of the SIJHL.

Also earning consideration for the SIJHL’s Gongshow Gear performer of the month award was Dalton Johnson, (D) Minnesota Iron Rangers; Braden Allkins, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Joe Newhouse, (D) Thunder Bay North Stars and Ryker Moreau, (F) English River Miners.
