Mason Meyer of Fort Frances Lakers named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Fort Frances Lakers rookie forward Mason Meyer has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Oct. 28.

In three games last week the 18-year-old International Falls, Minn., product racked up seven points helping the Lakers come away victorious in each contest.

Meyer began his award-winning effort by scoring once and doling out a pair of assists in a 6-3 victory over the Dryden Ice Dogs on Oct. 22.

He followed that by notching the game-winner and adding two helpers in a 4-3 road triumph over the league-leading Minnesota Wilderness on Oct. 24 before wrapping up his impressive week by netting another tally in a 6-3 win over the Minnesota Iron Rangers on Oct. 27.

Meyer is currently riding an eight-game point streak having registered five goals and nine assists in that span.

In recognition of his on-ice efforts he will be presented a gift card courtesy of Pizza Hut.

Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Paul Thompson, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Michael MacKinnon, (F) Minnesota Wilderness; Mathias Gardiman, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Trevor Hoth, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers; and Kevin Phillips, (F) Duluth Clydesdales.

At the conclusion of the 2012-13 regular season, the SIJHL’s top performer will be presented the league’s Pizza Hut player of the year award.
