Lakers Make it 4-in-a Row against Thistles

On Friday night at Ice for Kids Arena in Fort Frances, Ontario, the hometown Lakers got on the scoreboard early and often and rode a hot offensive start to their 4th straight win against SIJHL guest team Kenora Thistles U18AAA.

Cade Mozell got things started less than a minute into the contest with help from Kaden Katelnikoff and James Pederson.   Pederson added one of his own before the game was 4 minutes old on the power play .

The Lakers then piled on two more quick ones near the half-way mark of the opening period, first off the stick of Ben Hoefler, and Mozell with his second of the night 33 seconds later.

The final goal marked the end of the night for Thistles’ starting goaltender Darien Kiem who was lifted in favor of Kaden King.  It looked like the rout would be on.

To their credit, the Thistles – perhaps spurred on by the change in the crease – dug in and seemed to steady the ship.  Despite spotting the Lakers a 4-0 lead and enduring a steady onslaught in the shots department, the Thistles managed to win the final 49 minutes of the contest by a score of 1-0 on the back of a shorthanded, unassisted goal from Josh Ward at 10:57 of the second.

Final shots were 48 – 21 in favor of the Lakers.  Fort Frances went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Thistles were 0 for 9.

The final game of the Lakers / Thistles series will happen on Sunday December 20, 1:30pm at the Kenora Rec Center.
