Lakers’ Joseph named Sportop performer of the month

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced today that Fort Frances Lakers goaltender Talor Joseph has been named Sportop performer of the month for February.

In seven appearances last month the 18-year-old Sherwood Park, Alta., product was a perfect 7-0 registering a 2.96 goals-against average and .909 save percentage helping move his club firmly into second place in the overall SIJHL standings.

Among his victories was a 48-save performance, plus all three he faced in the shootout on Feb. 27, where he backstopped the Lakers to a 4-3 road victory over the league-leading Minnesota Wilderness putting an end to their 17-game winning streak while also extending the Lakers’ current run, which now stands at 10 consecutive contests.

Joseph has yet to lose since he joined Fort Frances in January posting an overall record of 9-0 along with a 2.97 GAA and .907 save mark.

He also garnered SIJHL Pizza Hut player of the week laurels from the period running Feb. 4-10.

Joseph will be recognized at a future game and presented with a gift pack courtesy of Sportop Marketing Inc.

Earning honourable mention for February’s Sportop performer of the month went to forwards Jake Larson of the Minnesota Wilderness and Tyson Holder of the Dryden Ice Dogs.
