Lakers Beat Miners In OT

Ryker Watt had a goal and two assists to help lead the Fort Frances Lakers over the Red Lake Miners 4-3 in overtime Friday night at the Cochenour Arena.

Red Lake got on the board first at 5:23 of the first when Kyle Schechtel scored his 7th of the season putting  home a rebound past Brenden Stroble.

The Lakers tied the game at 1 courtesy of Dylan Wedward’s 5th of the season a power play marker at 3:17 of the second.  Jacob Lamoureux’s league leading 18th goal of the season at 8:07 would put the Miners up 2-1. A power play goal from Trever Sanderson at 15:31 would put the Miners up 3-1 and after 2 periods the Miners led by 2.

Third period action saw Ryker Watt light the lamp for his 7th at 3:01 to pull the Lakers within 1. At 15:37 Darnell Kempf would put a shot from the point that beat a screened Osmond to tie the game at 3.  After 60 minutes of play the game remained tied and would head to overtime.

Early in the 3 on 3 overtime period Watt came in over the blue line and tried a shot that got blocked by a Miners defenceman but Branden Hill jumped on the loose puck and slid it past Osmond to give the Lakers a 4-3 win.

The win gave the Lakers a 2 game winning streak. With the overtime loss the Miners have recorded points in 4 straight.
