Kam River have name for new team mascot

Thunder Bay, Ont. – The Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Junior Hockey League have a name for their new mascot.

In an extremely exciting final, Chomper edged out Fin capturing 50.4% of the vote compared to 49.6% for Fin.

Over the course of Mascot Madness voting period, over 2,000 votes were cast by Kam River Walleye fans for their favourite mascot name.

“It was great to see the response by the community throughout this voting process. We are very pleased to welcome Chomper to the Fighting Walleye family,” announced Kam River president Derek Geddes.

“Chomper will be a very visible and busy fish in the community as we plan him to be involved in community events, school visits and of course creating a Walleye chop with our fans at our home games at The Pond,” Geddes explained.

Fans submitted names and eight were chosen to face off in an elimination tournament over the last two weeks.

The name Chomper was submitted by Milt Martyn. For his efforts Milt has won a pizza party for 10 at a Walleye game of his choice. Milt has graciously donated his prize to the Underground Gym.

June is sure to be a very busy month for the Fish as player signings open June 1st.

The Fighting Walleye are also kicking off a flex ticket package contest and announcing details on their Finnatics Fan Club.
