Iron Rangers to don Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys this weekend; also honor one of their own

HOYT LAKES, Minn. — It’s a very special weekend planned for the Minnesota Iron Rangers of the Superior International Junior Hockey League as they join Hockey Fights Cancer in support of those who have, or who are, battling cancer.

The club will wear special “Hockey Fights Cancer” jerseys and will pay special tribute to team trainer Tom Stewart as he drops the puck in a ceremonial faceoff Friday night prior to their 7 p.m. meeting with the Dryden GM Ice Dogs at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota will also wear the jerseys on Saturday night in Eveleth, Minn., as the Iron Rangers take on Dryden once again in another 7 p.m. at the Hippodrome.

At the beginning of the 2018-19 season, Stewart found out he had cancer.

Through all the treatments he has gone through since then, he has battled, fought hard and continues to show up to the rink to show his support to the boys and help teach them how to battle when things aren’t always going the best.

His never give up attitude is a lesson to be learned both on and off the ice.

For that the Iron Rangers and the entire SIJHL say thank you to Tom and stay strong to all those that are battling cancer.
