THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Minnesota Iron Rangers goaltender Tyler Thompson has been named its final Play It Again Sports Player of the Week for the 2017-18 regular season.
In his club’s lone contest last week, the 18-year-old Victoria, Minn., product turned in a stellar 63-save performance to backstop his team to a road victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars.
Heading into the Iron Rangers’ playoff opener tonight against the very same North Stars at the Fort William Gardens, Thompson led all SIJHL goalkeepers in saves this season with 1,311.
He also played the second-most minutes at 2,004 in this, his rookie campaign in Minnesota.
Also earning consideration for player of the week honours was Eric Stout, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Jackson Nelson, (G) Thief River Falls Norskies; Michael Lenko, (G) English River Miners; Jack Bernie, (F) Fort Frances Lakers and, Brandon Bodnar, (G) Thunder Bay North Stars.
