Iron Rangers double up Miners 4-2

RED LAKE, Ont. – The Minnesota Iron Rangers got a pair of goals, including the game-winner, from Hunter Routheau to help them defeat the English River Miners 4-2 Saturday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest held at Cochenour Arena.

English River struck first in this one get the night’s opening tally 63 seconds into the contest on a Landen Matechuk effort.

Routheau answered that 11 minutes later with Minnesota’s first of three power play tallies on the evening.

Dalton Johnson made it 2-1 Iron Rangers with a man advantage effort six and a half minutes into the middle session before Routheau potted the eventual winner with 45 seconds left in the frame.

Kyle Crawford brought the Miners closer three minutes into the third, but Minnesota got some insurance with 2:28 to go off the stick of Josh Gouin to round out the scoring.

Shots on goal favoured English River 33-27 with Kyle Carignan picking up the win and Reid Kilburn suffering the loss.

The same two teams will meet Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Ear Falls Arena.
