Iron Rangers come up big vs. Miners

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Minnesota Iron Rangers trio of Joshua Baker, Garrett Wojcicki and Mihali see combined for 11 points to help lead them to a 7-4 victory over the Red Lake Miners Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota came out flying in the contest and grabbed a 3-0 lead after one period of play.

Returning to the Iron Rangers’ line-up, Elias Thompson started the offensive outburst in his season debut while Zach Ash and Wojcicki also found the back of the net.

Both teams had no trouble scoring in the middle session as they combined for three markers apiece in the session.

Caleb Paisley and Michael Di Lullo started the Miners off before See added one for the Minnesota at 6:17.

Red Lake’s Stratton Pickett answered that 29 seconds later though to make it 4-3 game.

However, Baker tallied twice in the late stages of the stanza as the hosts went up three after 40 minutes.

Spencer Milne, on the power play, added another for the Miners six minutes into the third before Wojcicki scored late to secure the Iron Rangers win.

Synjen Amende made 47 saves to pick up the decision for Minnesota.

Vince Benedetto started for the Miners and allowed three against on six shots in one period of work with Zach Willms suffering the loss in relief in handling 15 of 19 attempts he saw.

The same two teams meet again Saturday back in Hoyt Lakes at 7 p.m.
