Ice Dogs blank North Stars 4-0
DRYDEN, Ont. – Paul Thompson tallied twice and Eric Szymczyk turned aside all 17 shots he faced to lead the Dryden Ice Dogs to a 4-0 shutout victory of the visiting Thunder Bay North Stars Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Arena.
Following a scoreless opening period Rory Court buried the eventual game-winner 6:8 into the second stanza beating Thunder Bay starter Mitchell Knight with his 11th goal of the season.
Thompson increased the cushion to two later in the session to put the Ice Dogs up a pair after 40 minutes.
A Chris Belhumeur power play marker early in the third made it 3-0 before Thompson wrapped up the scoring at 6:17.
The shutout by Szymczyk was his first in an Ice Dogs’ uniform.
With the win Dryden put an end to a five-game losing streak improving to 28-24-1-1 overall.
Knight 27 shots in a losing cause for the North Stars who dropped to 25-24-1-0 on the season.
