Huemmert leads Dryden over Fort Frances

DRYDEN, Ont. – Malcom Huemmert supplied his first two Superior International Junior Hockey League goals and set-up one more to help the Dryden GM Ice Dogs defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 6-2 Saturday at Memorial Arena.

It was all Dryden early on as they stormed out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play on tallies from Huemmert, Josh Sylvain and Evan Walls.

Fort Frances got one back 4:45 into the second stanza thanks to a Nick Lucas man advantage effort.

However the GM Ice Dogs answered by tacking on two more before the frame was complete on markers from Eric Stout and Jacen Bracko.

Skylar Lentz brought the Lakers closer 53 seconds into the third, but Huemmert finished off his three-point night a minute and a half later to wrap things up offensively.

Bryce McDonald assisted on both of Huemmert’s goals while Trevor Kavanaugh also had a pair of helpers for the GM Ice Dogs.

Logan Sawka faced 36 attempts in the Dryden win and picked up the win.

Roby Ivy started for Fort Frances and suffered the loss allowing five against on 27 shots in over 33 minutes of work while Michael Binczyk handled 16 of 17 in relief.
