Gnidziejko good in SIJHL debut as Dryden defeats English River

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs picked up a 28-save performance from newcomer Jacob Gnidziejko in Superior International Junior Hockey League debut as he backstopped his club to a 4-1 triumph over the visiting English River Miners meeting Wednesday at Memorial Arena.

A first period power play allowed the Miners to pick-up the lone tally of the frame as Michael Di Lullo notched his fifth of the campaign at 16:18.

Special team also helped Dryden tie it then go in front in the middle stanza with Connor Mowatt’s initial league goal drawing the GM Ice Dogs level during a man advantage at 5:54 before teammate Trevor Kavanaugh put the home side up in front, while up a skater, two minutes later with the eventual game-winner.

Malcolm Huemmert added some insurance for the GM Ice Dogs midway through the third before Tristan Knott iced it with an empty netter in the late going to round out the night’s scoring.

Cory Dennis chipped in with two assists to aid the Dryden cause.

Westin Cardwell faced 36 attempts in defeat for the Miners in a contest that saw the two sides meet for a third straight outing.
