GM Ice Dogs rebound to defeat Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got a goal and an assist from both Nathan Avery and Blake Berg as they defeated the Minnesota Iron Rangers 4-1 Saturday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota, who upended Dryden 7-2 on home ice Friday, opened the scoring in this one as Jake Ellingson connected on the power play 5:08 into the contest.

Dryden countered with the equalizer early in the second period thanks to Josh Oberg while teammate Berg supplied the eventual game-winner at 15:57 of the middle frame.

Avery provided some insurance for the visitors 70 seconds into the third and then set-up Woody Galbraith with 1:51 remaining to ice it.

Taylor Unruh made 21 stops to pick up the win for Dryden while Anthony Pupplo handled 30 of 34 in defeat for the Iron Rangers.

SIJHL action resumes Tuesday on two fronts as Minnesota hosts the Thunder Bay North Stars at 7 p.m. back in Hoyt Lakes while the league-leading Fort Frances Lakers entertain the English River Miners in a 7:30 p.m. start at Ice for Kids Arena.
