THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – After tying the game just before regulation time expired, the Dryden GM Ice Dogs got a goal from Carter Brown 1:22 into overtime to lift them to a 3-2 come from behind triumph over the Thief River Falls Norskies Saturday in front of 602 Superior International Junior Hockey League fans at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Thief River Falls picked up the lone marker in the first frame when Alex Verbout notched his initial SIJHL tally during an early man advantage opportunity.
Up a skater themselves early in the second period, Dryden drew level at 2:02 on an Eric Stout effort.
The Norskies got that back just over two minutes later on another power play when Tate Steffan picked up his second of the campaign at 4:06.
Despite pressuring Thief River Falls’ netminder Bailey Schmitz with 30 shots against the final two periods, the GM Ice Dogs could not solve him again until just before time ran expired.
Up a skater late and with their goaltender pulled in favour of an extra attacker, Dryden forced OT at 19:59 on a dramatic tying tally from Evan Walls.
Building on that, the visitors then prevailed again in OT for a second straight night on Brown’s game-winner to end it.
The GM Ice Dogs held a big edge in shots overall by a 43-13 count with Jordan Wilde picking up the win while Schmitz’s efforts helped the Norskies salvage a point.
