GM Ice Dogs hold off Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs needed a trio of markers in the latter stages of the third period to break a tie game and pull out an eventual 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest Friday at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Jacob Siebenga opened the scoring for Dryden 17:21 into the contest as he collected his 25th goal of the season.

The GM Ice Dogs added to their lead in the second stanza on a Malcolm Huemmert effort as the guests went up by a pair.

Battling back, Caleb Bialke notched his first SIJHL marker at 8:43 to put Minnesota on the board.

Then down a man late in the middle session, Joshua Baker struck shorthanded for the Iron Rangers as he picked up his team-leading 16th to knot the affair at 2-2 after 40 minutes.

The score stayed that way until less than five and a half minutes remaining in regulation when Evan Pakkala picked up the eventual game-winner for Dryden.

Trygve Many Guns added some insurance after that before Eric Stout finished it off for the GM Ice Dogs in the final moments.

Dryden netminder Jordan Wilde picked up the win for his side while Nick Corneliusen suffered the setback for Minnesota.
