GM Ice Dogs get past Lakers in shootout

DRYDEN, Ont. – Matthew Pitchenese and Jacen Bracko both scored in the shootout as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs edged the Fort Frances Lakers 4-3 Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Arena.

The first power play of the evening allowed Fort Frances to open the scoring nearly six minutes into the contest on the seventh of the season by Ian Jarvis.

Woody Galbraith tied it for Dryden at 15:28 before teammate Wyatt Lawrence put the GM Ice Dogs in front before the frame was complete.

A Jack Dunnell early in the second stanza drew the Lakers level only to see Bracko give the home side the lead in the final minute of the session.

Fort Frances forced overtime thanks to Noah Loveday midway through the third.

After a scoreless five-minute OT, extra shots were needed to determine a winner.

In the shootout Pitchenese and Bracko both converted on their chances to give Dryden the win.

Jacob Gnidziejko made23 saves to record the victory in net for the GM Ice Dogs while Brett Akins faced 49 shots against in the setback helping the Lakers earn a point in the game.
