Fort Frances wins 3rd straight in triumph over Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Fort Frances Lakers matched a season-high Saturday with their third consecutive victory as they defeated the Minnesota Iron Rangers 6-2 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Down a man early Minnesota opened the scoring by striking shorthanded on a Mark Sanchez effort.

The Lakers would tie it midway through the first period as Nick Lucas connected on the power play.

Sanchez added his second goal of the frame in the final minute as the home side carried a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

Fort Frances countered in the middle stanza however by notching three unanswered markers to go up 4-2 on even strength tallies from Christian Ward and Noah Loveday along with another man advantage effort from Lucas with just four seconds remaining in the period.

The Lakers then put the game away in the third on goals from Jaedin Ness and Ian Jarvis to secure the victory.

Loveday and Adam Withers chipped in with two assists apiece to aid the visitors cause.

Fort Frances outshot Minnesota 46-21 on the night with Ismael Ralsten picking up the win while Rob Ivy suffered the loss.
