Fort Frances takes 2nd straight vs. Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Fort Frances Lakers used a well-balanced attack getting goals from seven different skaters Saturday to aid in a 7-2 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota did start off well by notching the night’s opening tally two minutes into the match-up thanks to Matt Turnbull’s fourth of the season with assists going to Zach Ash and Brendan Burns, with the latter collecting his first SIJHL point.

Fort Frances got that back before the midway point of the period on Noah Loveday’s sixth.

The Lakers then broke it open with a five-goal second period to send them on their way to the win.

Nate Drobnick and Cole Allan started the outburst with markers, just over a minute apart, before Isaac Baron, Anthony Antonelli and Chase Robideau all tallied in rapid succession later in the stanza to put the visitors up 6-1 after two.

Brett Hahkala added to the Fort Frances cushion 9:08 into the third before Turnbull’s second of the evening round out the scoring for the Iron Rangers.

Kaleb Bruyere and Ethan Knutsen had two assists each for the winning side.

The Lakers also held the edge in shots on goal by a 56-31 margin with Matt Booth picking up the win while Nick Corneliusen suffered the loss.
