Fort Frances slams English River

COCHENOUR, Ont. –  The Fort Frances Lakers broke open scoreless game with five second period goals en route to a 7-1 win over the English River Miners in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Cochenour Arena.

After a scoreless opening frame, Fort Frances got going offensively thanks to an Andrew Willner man advantage effort 66 seconds into the middle session.

The Miners got that back with a power play marker of their own at 4:05 as Nash Dabb notched his fifth of the season.

It was all Lakers after that as they tacked on four tallies in an 11-minute span to take control of the contest.

After Roshen Jaswal had the eventual game-winner at 6:01, Fort Frances picked up three more man advantage goals from Cole Tymkin, Christian Ripley and another by Jaswal to go up 5-1 after 40 minutes.

The Lakers’ fifth power play effort of the night 4:17 into the third added to the cushion as Jaswal finished off a hat trick to go with an earlier assist.

Julian Uhryniuk wrapped things up for Fort Frances late as he picked up his sixth of the season with 1:37 left.

Nick Minerva had five helpers to give him a five-point night while Dylan Robertson had three assists on the night.

Brandon Bodnar made 30 saves to pick up the win for the Lakers.

Reid Kilburn started for English River and suffered the loss allowing five against on 15 attempts with Korlan Vader stopping nine of 11 shots in 23 minutes of relief.
