Fort Frances skates to 5th straight win

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Dylan Robertson scored twice in the third period, including the game-winner late in regulation, and added an earlier assist to help lift the Fort Frances Lakers to a 5-3 victory over the Fort William North Stars Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at the Fort William Gardens.

Fort Frances got on the board first just past the five-minute mark of the contest as Julian Uhryniuk picked up his third goal of the season.

The visitors then made it 2-0, via the power play, at 14:22 as Cole Tymkin beat Thunder Bay starter Riley Corbin.

It took the North Stars just 22 seconds to answer that tally as Christian Ward’s effort eluded Lakers’ netminder Pierce Dushenko.

Thunder Bay tied it midway through the match-up when Kris Hamlin buried his team-leading ninth of the campaign.

Entering the third, the Lakers went back on top thanks to Christian Ripley, but Jesse Talakoski answered that to knot the affair once again.

Robertson then supplied the difference maker with three minutes remaining in regulation and then sealed the win with a shorthanded, empty netter to wrap thing up at 19:46.

Andrew Willner had two assists to help out Fort Frances offensively.

Shots on goal favoured the Lakers 41-33 with Dushenko picking up the win and Corbin the loss.

The decision helped the league-leading Lakers skate to their fifth straight win as they improved to 12-2-0 on the season. With the loss, the North Stars dipped 6-9-1 overall.
