Fort Frances extends winning streak to 14 games

FORT FRANCES – The Fort Frances Lakers used a well balanced attack getting goals from six different skaters en route to their 14th Superior International Junior Hockey League victory in a row, a 6-3 triumph over the Dryden Ice Dogs, Thursday evening at Ice for Kids Arena.

The lone tally of the opening period came off the stick of Lakers’ forward Lucas Debendet who notched his league-leading 15th marker and 29th point of the season in the final minute of the opening session.

Each side then connected once apiece on the power play in the middle stanza courtesy of Dryden’s Tim Kavanaugh and Riley Daly for Fort Frances.

After Mason Meyer put the Lakers up a pair midway through the third the Ice Dogs’ Chris Sitco responded with a man advantage marker with 6:45 to go.

Patrick Sofer then made it 4-2 for the home side a couple minutes later only to see the visitors pull closer again at 18:23 thanks to Dane Feeney.

Fort Frances would however put the game away with a pair of empty net goals from Lyndon Lipinski and Cody Wickstrom to round out the night’s scoring.

The Lakers held the edge in shots on net by a 41-24 margin with Jordan Cartney picking up the win and Robert Kopyek-MacKenzie the loss as Fort Frances continued their winning ways improving to 15-1-0-1 on the season while the Ice Dogs slipped to 9-11.
