Feeney’s 4 points leads Ice Dogs over Miners

THUNDER BAY – Dane Feeney notched a hat-trick and added an assist to lead the Dryden Ice Dogs past the English River Miners 8-2 Friday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ear Falls Arena.

Dryden jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one period of play get two tallies from Jonah Coonishish-Coon and solo efforts from Feeney and captain Tyson Holder while Domenic Blouin replied for English River.

Feeney’s second of the night early in the second increased the Ice Dogs cushion with the only marker of the middle session.

Dryden then put the game away in the final frame with Feeney capping of his four-point night by connecting midway through the stanza then feeding Chris Sitco at 12:09.

Rory Court’s eighth goal of the season added to the visitor’s lead before Miner’s forward Devin Vander Wyk round out the scoring on the night at 15:22.

Robert Kopytek-MacKenzie finished with 32 saves on the evening to pick-up the win.

P.D. Melgoza started for English River and suffered the loss before giving way to Greg Harney after the fifth Ice Dogs goal as the duo combined to face 41 shots in defeat.

SIJHL play resumes Saturday as the Miners host the Fort Frances Lakers while the Wisconsin Wilderness entertain the Thunder Bay North Stars in a pair of 7 p.m. starts.
