English River’s Brendan Wilde named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Brendan Wilde of the English River Miners has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the period ending Nov. 10.

In two games this past week the 20-year-old Surrey, B.C. scored five times, including a pair of game-winners to help the Miners complete a weekend road sweep of the Wisconsin Wilderness.

The English River forward began by notching a hat-trick by scoring his club’s final three tallies in a 5-2 victory over the Wilderness on Friday.

Wilde, an assistant captain with the Miners, followed that up the next night by adding another game-winner along with another marker in a 6-4 triumph vs. Wisconsin.

His efforts allowed him to extend a modest point streak to three games while improving his over totals to six goals and as many assists in 18 games.

Also earning consideration for the league’s weekly award were Lucas Debenedet, (F) Fort Frances Lakers, Jason Reynolds, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers, Tim Kavanaugh, (D) Dryden Ice Dogs, Zach Grzelewski, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars, and Alex Rezansoff, (F) Wisconsin Wilderness.

At the conclusion of the regular season the SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.
