Dryden’s Palermo named SIJHL Play It Again Sports Player of the Week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Dryden GM Ice Dogs captain Trey Palermo has been named its Play It Again Sports Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 9.

In four games last week the 20-year-old Dryden product produced points in all of them helping his hometown team go 3-1 overall.

Palermo started with a goal and two assists in a win vs. Minnesota, followed that up with a pair of tallies in a road triumph vs. the Iron Rangers, added another marker in a defeat at Thief River Falls then helped set-up the game-winner Sunday as the GM Ice Dogs capped off a road trip with a victory over the Norskies.

He enters play this week just out of the Top 10 in league offensive numbers with 29 points in 24 outings with seven goals and 22 assists to his credit.

A veteran of 114 SIJHL contests, Palermo is well on pace to set single-season best totals in goals, assists and points. In his career, he has 103 points to his credit on 32 tallies and 71 helpers.

Also earning consideration for player of the week honours was Boe Bjorge, (F) Thief River Falls Norskies; Shaye Sommerfeld, (F) Red Lake Miners; Nick Lucas, (F) Fort Frances Lakers and Christian Ward, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers.

NOTE: The Thunder Bay North Stars did not play last week, thus did not have a nominee.
