Dryden tops English River 3-1

EAR FALLS, Ont. –  A Derek McPhail goal 16:54 into the second period proved to be the game-winner Friday evening as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs defeated the English River Miners 3-1 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ear Falls Arena.

Dryden notched the lone marker of the opening frame as Braeden Allkins connected on the power play at 15:07 of the first.

The score stayed that way until McPhail’s effort in the latter stages of the middle stanza.

Matt Houston made 3-0 for the visitors four minutes into the third to extend the GM Ice Dogs cushion.

Special teams allowed the Miners to crack Taylor Unruh’s shutout bid with 11:43 to go as Konnar Dechaine connected finishing off the feed of Brandon Schaber in what would be the game’s final tally.

Uhruh made 25 saves to pick up the victory for Dryden.

Reid Kilburn faced 34 shots in defeat for English River.
