Dryden skates past English River

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got a goal and an assist from captain Derek McPhail to help them defeat the English River Miners 6-2 Saturday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Memorial Arena.

Landen Matechuk put the Miners in front in the first only to see McPhail come right back with the equalizer on the next shift.

Dryden took control of the contest with three second period tallies supplied by Tanner Watt, Braedyn Aubin and a Troy Williams power play effort.

After Matechuk brought English River closer with his 15th of the season in the final frame, the GM Ice Dogs put the game away in the latter stages courtesy of Nic Noseworthy and Braeden Allkins who put his into an empty net.

Taylor Unruh made 19 saves to record the victory for the GM Ice Dogs.

Reid Kilburn faced 38 shots in defeat for the Miners.
