Dryden drops English River in final preseason contest

DRYDEN, Ont. –  The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got goals from six different skaters, including three via the power play, to help defeat the English River Miners 6-4 Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League preseason play at Memorial Arena.

Dryden got off to a good start grabbing a 2-0 lead after one period on markers from Trey Palermo and Tristan Knott.

There was plenty of offensive firepower in the middle stanza with the two clubs combining for seven tallies, including four by the GM Ice Dogs.

Woody Galbraith, Taylor Bucsis, Mark Ziobro and Shane McKay connected for Dryden in the session while Jamie Driedger, Braeden Pearce and Coleton Johnson countered for the Miners.

Terix Fischer-Nobes added one more for English River in the third to round out the scoring.

Dryden held the edge in shots on goal in the contest by a 38-28 margin.

The same two teams will meet again Friday back in Dryden to kick off the SIJHL’s regular season.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
