Dryden drops English River 5-3

DRYDEN, Ont. – A three-goal second period helped the Dryden GM Ice Dogs rally from an early deficit to pull out a 5-3 win over the English River Miners Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Arena.

English River picked up the lone tally of the opening 20 minutes as Brandon Schaber struck shorthanded at 17:17 to put the visitors in front after one.

Dryden battled back in the middle session scoring three times on tallies by Braeden Allkins, Matt Houston and Jeevan Dosange to take a 3-1 lead into the final frame.

Derek McPhail added to the GM Ice Dogs cushion early in the third, but Ryker Moreau brought the Miners closer at 4:28.

Kyle Crawford’s fourth goal of the season with 2:05 remaining helped English River pull to within one only to see Kent Walchuk ice it with an empty netter with 21 seconds left to round out the scoring.

Dryden held the edge in shots 29-15 with Paul Leferriere securing the victory while Reid Lilburn suffered the loss.
