Dryden defeats Minnesota in annual Military Appreciation Game

DRYDEN, Ont. – Skating in their fourth annual Military Appreciation Game the Dryden GM Ice Dogs earned a motivate 5-1 victory over the visiting Minnesota Iron Rangers Friday night in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest held at Memorial Arena.

Defenceman Kyle Pouncy had a big game for the GM Ice Dogs as he tallied twice, including notching the game-winner and assited on another marker to pace his club offensively.

He put the home side up by two quickly as he found the back of the night twice with the contest barely three minutes old.

Mitch Renstrom pulled the Iron Rangers back to within one at 3:20 to continue the early goal count.

Both sides tighted up after that as the score remained 2-1 Dryden until through through the second period as Woody Galbraith added to the GM Ice Dogs lead during a man advantage opportunity.

Blake Berg made it 4-1 just 73 seconds into the final frame before Ben Smaha rounded out the scoring with seven and a half minutes to play.

Shots on goal favoured Dryden 29-19 with Paul Laferriere picking up the win while Alex Burke suffered the loss.

With the result the GM Ice Dogs raised their record to 12-4-3 on the season while the Iron Rangers fell to 7-11-2.
