Daman’s game-winner lifts Norskies over Lakers in OT

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – An Alec Daman goal 2:07 into overtime was the difference as the Thief River Falls Norskies rallied to defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 5-4 Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Thief River Falls started strong in this one skating out to a 2-0 lead in the first on an even strength from Alec Severson and one on the power play courtesy of Blake Nelson’s 20th goal of the season.

Battling back, Fort Frances answered with two of their own late in the session thanks to Jaedin Ness and Nick Lucas, with the latter connecting on a man advantage chance.

Heading to the second stanza, it was the Lakers that connected quickly on a pair Brett Hahkala power play goals.

Then the Norskies countered as Blake Nelson and Brett Piper, with his 25th, answered for the home side to knot the affair at 4-4 after two.

After a scoreless third, Daman won it in OT for Thief River Falls to give them the victory.

The Norskies out shot the Lakers 35-26 with Fletcher Bolda picking up the win while Jacob Gnidziejko’s efforts helped Fort Frances earn a point in defeat.
