Another member of Miners commits to play U.S. college hockey

RED LAKE, Ont. – The English River Miners of the Superior International Junior Hockey League has seen a fifth member of its team from 2016-17 commit to play collegiate hockey in the U.S.

Defenceman Zac Schlitt has confirmed with the club that he will attend the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in the fall as well as suit up for the Rebels American Collegiate Hockey Association D-I team.

The 21-year-old D-man from Prince George, B.C., started this past campaign with the Dryden GM Ice Dogs before being acquired by English River in mid-November.

In a combined 52 SIJHL contests Schlitt totalled 18 points on four goals and 14 assists with two of his tallies being game-winners.

Through 95 career games in the league he amassed 23 points on five markers and 23 helpers.

“We at the English River Miners would like to congratulate Zac on his commitment to UNLV, his efforts for our club and wish him the best of luck in the future,” offered English River head coach and general manager Derek Sweet-Coulter.

The Miners will hold their main training camp for the 2017-18 season Sept. 6-8 in Red Lake.
