Aldoff departs SIJHL for head coaching job in SPHL
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – After an incredible three-year run coaching in the Superior International Junior Hockey League, Rod Aldoff is moving on to the professional ranks.
Aldoff has accepted the head coaching position with the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
In three years at the helm of the Wisconsin and Minnesota Wilderness franchise he led his club to a trio of Bill Salonen Cup championships while also guiding his team to a Dudley-Hewitt Cup title this past season as well as a semifinal berth at the RBC Cup Canadian National Jr. A championship.
The 42-year-old native of Lethbridge, Alta., also guided Team West to a win at the CJHL Prospects Events in Nova Scotia in November.
In his three campaigns behind the Wilderness bench he registered an impressive 145-15-8 overall record while garnering a pair of SIJHL coach of the year honours and one Gary Cook Memorial Award for league executive of the year.
“The goal of the SIJHL is to try and move our members on to the next level, whether it’s on or off the ice,” stated league Commissioner and President Ron Whitehead.
“Rod’s tenure in his three years in the league was remarkable and was matched only by his dedication, professionalism and the overall class he and his teams displayed night in and night out,” added Whitehead.
“We wish him the best of luck and continued success in his coaching career.”
Aldoff joins a Pensacola team that enters the upcoming season as defending SPHL champions.
