Adams stops 34 as Lumberjacks edge Miners

RED LAKE, Ont. – Wisconsin Lumberjacks goalkeeper Hunter Adams turned aside 34 of the 35 shots he faced to help backstop his side to a narrow 2-1 triumph over the Red Lake Miners in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at Cochenour Arena.

Picking up the evening’s initial power play, Wisconsin would open the scoring three and a half minutes into the contest as Joel Matthews notched his fourth marker of the campaign.

The Lumberjacks then went up by a pair after collecting the lone goal of the middle session with Parker Barkebill feeding Ryan Green for his ninth with a cross crease pass as the pair were in alone on Red Lake starter Cody Levesque, who had no chance on the play.

Deep into a man advantage in the third, the Miners cut into the deficit at 3:59 as Kielan Toews fired a high rising shot from the left point that found its way through a crowd in front and beat Adams.

However, the Wisconsin netminder was flawless the rest of the way to help him earn his first win of 2020.

Shots on goal finished up 35-25 with Levesque suffering the setback.
