3-point night for Minerva as Lakers ice Iron Rangers

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Fort Frances Lakers defenceman Nick Minerva had a goal and two assists to help his team defeat the Minnesota Iron Rangers 5-2 Saturday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter at Ice for Kids Arena.

Christian Ripley put Fort Frances out in front four and a half minutes into the contest as he beat Minnesota starter Kyle Carignan with a power play tally.

The Iron Rangers pulled even with a man advantage marker of their own 14:50 into the period thanks to Jackson Bond.

The Lakers notched a pair of goals in the middle session to go back in front for good with Andrew Willner and Dylan Kooner both finding the back of the net.

Minnesota moved to within one at 4:30 of the third on Dalton Johnson’s second of the season, but Fort Frances countered that with Minerva blasting one home on the power play at 5:44.

The Lakers then iced it late with an empty netter from Carter Chorney with 64 seconds to go to round out the scoring.

Brandon Bodnar 22 saves earned him the win in net while Carignan faced 38 shots in defeat.
