Thunder Bay thumps Minnesota

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  Brendan Gillis tallied twice and set-up two others while Jesse Talakoski dished out four assists to help the Thunder Bay North Stars thump the Minnesota Iron Rangers 9-3 Friday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

Three goals in just over a minute, midway through the opening period, saw Thunder Bay take a 2-1 lead with Gillis and Jake Robinson sandwiching markers around one by Minnesota’s Dalton Thiesen.

Theisen tied it with his second of night early in the middle session only to see the North Stars strike four times in an eight and a half minute span to take control of the contest.

Joe Newhouse, Gillis, Robinson and Brad Arabia were the marksmen in the offensive outburst.

After Thunder Bay’s Aaron Wesley-Chisel and the Iron Rangers’ Kenny Hasbargen traded goals in the third, the North Stars capped off the win with markers from Troy Sherman along with Aaron Balcombe’s first of the season with a minute to go to wrap things up.

Jonathon Masters supplied three assists for the North Stars in the one-sided triumph.

Jordan Elliot made 33 saves to record the win for Thunder Bay.

Jackson Nelson and Sean Angle both saw time in net for Minnesota in defeat seeing a combined 36 shots along the way.
