Thunder Bay runs win streak to 6

EAR FALLS, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars trio of Kenny Turner, Kris Hamlin and Nicholas Nigro combined for eight points helping their side win their sixth Superior International Junior Hockey League contest in a row as they defeated the English River Miners 4-2 Friday at Ear Falls Arena.

Brad Arabia staked the North Stars to the early lead with the lone goal of the opening frame at 3:08.

The Miners tied it 44 seconds into the middle session on Konnor Dechaine’s 18th of the season.

Turner put Thunder Bay back in front with a power play marker at 4:14 while Christian Ward made it 3-1 for the visitors seven and a half minutes later.

Dechaine picked up his second of the night with a man advantage effort 5:43 of the third to pull English River back to within one.

The North Stars’ Turner added some insurance with 7:42 remaining as he collected another on the power play to round out the scoring.

He also had an assist on the night while Hamlin secured a trio of helpers and Nigro earned two.

In the process Nigro extended a consecutive game point streak to seven while Turner and Arabia have got on the scoresheet in six straight outings.

Eric Mann made 26 saves to record the win for Thunder Bay.

Reid Kilburn started for the Miners and suffered the loss allowing three against on 18 shots.

Korlan Vader stopped seven of eight in just over 28 minutes of relief for English River.
