Thunder Bay rallies to edge Fort Frances
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A Brad Thrower power play tally 4:22 into the third period was the game-winner as the Thunder Bay North Stars rallied for a 3-2 win over the Fort Frances Lakers Friday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at the Fort William Gardens.
Fort Frances started strong as they jumped out to 2-0 lead before the contest was 13 minutes old.
Jack Bernie put the Lakers on the board just 19 seconds after the opening face-off then made it 2-0 with his 15th of the season, 12 minutes later, as he converted during a man advantage opportunity.
Thunder Bay did get one back before the frame was complete when Avery Siau picked up his fourth at 15:19.
The score stayed that way until early in the third when Jonathon Masters notched the equalizer for the North Stars at 2:42.
Picking up a man advantage opportunity shortly after that, Thrower completed the Thunder Bay comeback with his 18th of the campaign in what turned out to be the final goal of the evening.
Nathaniel Dupuis made 29 saves to register the win for the North Stars while Jessie Heisz faced 41 shots in defeat for Fort Frances.
