Strong 2nd sends Iron Rangers past Miners

EAR FALLS, Ont. – The Minnesota Iron Rangers got a goal and an assist from Tyler Lindstrom as part of a four-tally second period to help them skate to a 5-1 victory over the English River Miners Saturday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ear Falls Arena.

Minnesota got the lone marker of the opening frame as Dan Sarnecki notched his eighth of the season 12:40 into the contest.

The Iron Rangers built on that in the middle session as they went up a pair at 3:18 on a Logan Froberg effort.

The power play helped the visitors go up by three while Eric Madison connected during a man advantage opportunity two minutes later.

English River replaced starter Reid Kilburn with Korlan Vader after the Madison marker, but Minnesota greeted the new Miners netminder 43 seconds later on an unassisted effort from MaKenzie Gray.

Lindstrom’s eighth of the campaign at 18:32 of the frame put the Iron Rangers up by five entering the third.

Kilburn came back to start the third for the home side and English River did dash Anthony Pupplo’s shutout bid at 6:27 with Nash Dabb’s 13th to complete the night’s scoring.

Pupplo earned the win for his club making 42 saves in victory for Minnesota.

Kilburn suffred the defeat stopping 21 of the 24 attempts fired his way while Vader handled 12 of 14 in nearly 15 minutes of relief.

SIJHL action resumes Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. CT as the league-leading Fort Frances Lakers take on the second-place Dryden GM Ice Dogs in a Family Day matinee at Ice for Kids Arena.
