Schmitz posts 3rd straight shutout as Norskies stymie Iron Rangers

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Thief River Falls Norskies goaltender Bailey Schmitz posted his third consecutive shutout of the Minnesota Iron Rangers in a 4-0 victory Friday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Huck Olson Arena.

With his impressive run, Schmitz has now not allowed a goal against in 183 minutes and nine seconds of playing time.

After a scoreless first period, the home side got on the board 2:10 into the middle stanza thanks to Pete Grytdahl who picked up his seventh of the season.

Thief River Falls added to their lead past the midway mark of the contest when Brett Piper scored on the power play.

They added another before the middle session was complete with Piper picking up his second of frame and fifth overall.

The Norskies added some insurance at 7:07 of the third with Grytdahl picking up another to round out the scoring.

Schmitz’s latest effort saw him make 33 saves to record his sixth shutout of the season.

Minnesota starter Tyler Thompson meanwhile saw 48 shots fired his way in defeat while Jaeger was spotless in a late relief stint.
