Reynolds scores OT winner as Minnesota edges Thunder Bay

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Jason Reynolds second goal of the game 3:41 into overtime was the difference as the Minnesota Iron Rangers defeated the visiting Thunder Bay North Stars 5-4 Wednesday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota got off to a good start in this one getting first period tallies from Seth Chumley and Reynolds to grab a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Thunder Bay responded in the middle session with markers from Kris Kellaway and Zach Grzelewski to level the proceedings by the nine-minute point of the frame.

The Iron Rangers answered back in quick order however as Chumley’s second of the evening put the home side back on top at 9:58.

It stayed that way until 5:50 of the third when Kellaway struck shorthanded to tie thing the score at 303.

Once again Minnesota retook the lead courtesy of a Jonathon Losurdo power play effort midway through the stanza.

Grzelewski then forced OT with 5:40 left in regulation as he notched his second of the game.

In the end however it was Reynolds who won the game for the Iron Rangers and gave them the two points as he finished off the work of Austin Frank for the game-winner.

Frank had two assists on the night for the Rangers with Matthias Gardiman having three and Daniel Delpaggio a pair for Thunder Bay.

Shots on goal were 41-24 in favour of Minnesota with Alex Reichle picking up the victory while Nathanial suffered the OT loss as the North Stars earned a point with the OT setback.

League play continues Thursday as the Wisconsin Wilderness host the Dryden Ice Dogs in a 7 p.m. start at the Spooner Ice House.
