North Stars score 4 in 3rd to defeat Iron Rangers 8-3

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars got a pair of shorthanded goals from Troy Sherman and three assists from Brad Thrower to help them dump the Minnesota Iron Rangers 8-3 Saturday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

Zack Glowatch put Thunder Bay in front early while Brad Arabia made it 2-0 during a Thunder Bay power play at 14:06.

Eli Kinsman countered for Minnesota 36 seconds later only to see Nicholas Nigro regain the North Stars cushion late in the first period.

The Iron Rangers stormed out in the second stanza and struck twice to knot the score at 3-3 thanks to Clayton Brown’s first at 6:35 and Korey Muzzy’s equalizer four and half minutes later.

Thunder Bay would regroup and go back in front at 13:29 compliments of Jake Robinson.

It was all North Stars in the third however as they pumped in four markers to win going away.

Sherman started the outburst with a man-down effort seven minutes into the frame while Nigro added one on a power play a couple shifts later.

A second shorthanded goal from Sherman made it 7-3 Thunder Bay before Jesse Talakoski’s fifth of the season rounded out the scoring.

Shots on net were 38-31 in favour of the Stars with Nathaniel Dupuis picking up the win and Sean Angle the loss.
