North Stars hold on after power outage to win Game 3 vs. GM Ice Dogs

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – One night later after a power outage that knocked out the lights at the Fort William Gardens and surrounding area Thursday that caused Game 3 between the Thunder Bay North Stars and Dryden GM Ice Dogs to be suspended was completed Friday evening with Thunder Bay holding on for a 3-2 victory.

With the result, Dryden now leads the best-of-seven series 2-1 with Game 4 set to begin within minutes back at the Gardens.

When Game 3 began on Thursday evening, Thunder Bay took a 1-0 lead 6:44 into the contest on a Joe Newhouse power play goal.

The middle stanza saw the North Stars go up by a pair three and a half minutes into the contest on the first SIJHL playoff marker for Zac Glowatch.

Thunder Bay then went up by three at 12:02 when Kris Hamlin connected during a man advantage opportunity.

Dryden’s power play brought them back into it as they struck twice in the session with up a match thanks to markers provided by Nic Noseworthy and Kyle Pouncy.

Then four minutes into the third the lights went dark and the subsequent power failure caused the game to be suspnded at that point and completed this evening.

As the match-up resumed Newhouse bailed out Thunder Bay netminder Riley Corbin by knocking the puck off the goal line as it was sliding in during a Dryden power play with 10 minutes remaining.

Dryden pulled their goalkeeper Taylor Unruh late in an effort to tie and force overtime, but the North Stars held on to earn the win.

Shots on goal favoured the home side by a 37-35 margin.
