North Stars earn 20th win with triumph over Iron Rangers

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars picked up two goals apiece from Keighan Gerrie and Brad Thrower as part of a 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

Minnesota did get on the board first by notching the night’s opening tally 11:30 into the contest on Zac Horn’s 11th marker of the season to help the visitors carry a lead into the intermission.

An early second period power play helped Thunder Bay to tie things up as Gerrie collected his first of the night just under a minute into the frame.

Thrower then put the North Stars in front at 10:35 while Gerrie followed that up 54 seconds later to notch another to help him reach 30 points overall, which currently paces all SIJHL rookies.

Up a skater in the third, the Iron Rangers moved to within one on a Garrett Wojcicki man advantage effort at 5:58.

Thunder Bay answered that however a couple shifts later compliments of Kyle Auger with the eventual game-winner.

Thrower’s team-leading 23rd added some insurance for the North Stars at 16:22 before Minnesota’s Clayton Brown and Thunder Bay’s Turner Santin traded goals in the late going to finish things off.

Auger, Santin and Logan Mihalcin chipped in with a pair of assists each for the North Stars as did Eli Kinsman for the Iron Rangers.

Shots on goal favoured Thunder Bay 41-26 with Dougie Newhouse picking up the win while Rob Ivy suffered the loss.
